The Oxford Wine Company is opening a new retail shop in Turl Street in the centre of Oxford. The new shop will open in Summer 2017, stocking our full range of wines and spirits. It will be located at the site of the former independent shoe shop Duckers, which closed recently after 118 years - not far from the site of the original Oxford Wine Company which traded between 1840 and 1914. Being such a central site will make it very accessible for tourists and students as well as staff at Oxford University - particularly University wine buyers.
The new shop, which is smaller than our other sites but benefits from a large cellar, will be managed by Mark Warde-Aldam, who we have lured from his position as a senior manager at Majestic in Summertown.
Ted Sandbach, MD and Owner of The Oxford Wine Company and The Oxford Wine Café Group said:
"There are no wine merchants in the centre of Oxford because of the high rents and complex one-way system and I think we miss out on tourists and students who don't necessarily know the Botley Road site, our other shop on the outskirts of Oxford. We need somewhere central so we will be accessible to the many students, tourists, university buyers and the public who work in the city centre."
