Stunning Syrah Tasting Thursday 30/01/14
Hosted by Lee Isaacs-Branch Manager

I wanted to start the 2014 tasting calendar with something really special and feature wines that would be warm and comforting. What better way to do this than by showcasing the exciting world of Syrah (or Shiraz depending upon your stylistic preference). I showed a variety of wines from around the world in an attempt to show how broad this variety can be.
We had a slow start with the southern French wine not being so popular due to its simplicity but then we soon got going! The big winner on the night was the Man O' War Dreadnought from Waiheke Island off the coast of Auckland. This was big, rich and complex but offered more than just pepper and brambly fruit. The Cornas was also well liked but none of us were sure that the egg shaped fermentation vessel used really did harness the energies of the cosmos.
