Job Title: Tastings & Fine Wine

Role: Buying, presenting tastings, organising our tastings schedule, writing tasting notes + a lot else!

Interests: I have played the drums since I was 14 in various bands, including some professional work before I joined the wine trade in 1985. I still play today regularly in bands.

Likes: I grew up in Africa and discovered the Greek Islands in the 80s – Greece has become a kind of second home to me and a kind of substitute for Africa.

Dislikes: I have never developed a taste for Fino Sherry despite being in the wine trade. I’m very sensitive to oxidation in wine and therefore have problems with it – other styles of sherry are fine. That’s certainly not true of Port which I find frighteningly moreish!

If you could be served any food/dish what would it be? A serious roast made with the best meat available – top class ingredients are very important.

If you were a wine which one would it be? An aged Rioja – specifically La Rioja Alta 904 – my all time favourite wine for many years.

What do you like about working with The Oxford Wine Company? This is an exciting company to work for! The Oxford Wine Company never stands still and is always expanding into new areas – we’ve come so far in the 13 years that I’ve been with the company and we have changed so much and branched out into so many different areas!

What is your most diverse achievement? Playing drums in a band managed by a young Tony Blair!

Which are your most favoured wines? I love Rioja, Burgundy, good New World Pinot Noir and the Rhone. In recent years I’ve got into big blends from Argentina and Chile.
