- The vineyards were first established in Tasmania during colonial settlement. However, in more recent times, Tamar Ridge has established its own success story as part of Tasmania`s modern wine industry. A blend of several clones was used and the wine was pressed using a hydraulic basket press and then pumped into French oak barriques. Approximately 25% of the wine was matured in new oak with the balance aged in a mixture of two to three year old barrels. It is aged for 10-12 months in French oak.
Deep crimson red with hints of purple. A rich and complex nose with strong aromas of ripe raspberry and strawberry dominates against a background of spicy oak.On the palate it has mouth filling flavours of ripe raspberry and strawberry and a long and persistent finish.
- Press:
- 'A wonderfully classy Pinot, with lovely aromas and flavours of clean red fruit, cranberries, hints of smoke and light spice, with an elegance; medium bodied but with all the restrained power and elegance for which you might pay twice the price for in Burgundy.' - Terry Kirby, The Independent
'The second wine from the Brown Brothers-owned Tasmanian cool-climate specialists Tamar Ridge to make the final selection in this year's Top 100 is a delectable example of the island's best red grape variety, Pinot Noir.
The fruit, sourced from various terroirs, is crushed into open-top stainless steel fermenters before being pressed into barriques, 25% new and the rest between two and three years old.
"Stylish and elegant in true Burgundian style," the judges said. "There's some woodsy complexity and lots of fine red berry fruit.
"Hard not to admire its subtlety and quiet confidence. Would suit Burgundy lovers looking for better value."' - The Wine Merchant Top 100 - Awards:
- Named in The Wine Merchant Top 100
