Not too heavy without slipping into the uninteresting territory, this wine has plenty of ripe fruit from the Montepulciano, combined with a balancing acidity from the Sangiovese.

This can be matched with a broad variety of Italian foods, but I found it worked particularly well with a simple pasta pomodoro.
