- The Rustenberg Estate was founded in 1682 and is nestled in the valley of the Simonsberg Mountain in South Africa's premium wine region, Stellenbosch. Rustenberg's rich heritage and ethos has been informed by many centuries of human influence striving to understand and work with nature to produce wines of distinct character true to their terroir, variety and informed style.
Roussanne is a white wine grape grown originally in the Rhone wine region in France, where it is often blended with Marsanne. Now found in many regions, notably Australia, South Africa, Tuscany and California's Central Coast, the grapes are distinguished by their russet-brown colour when ripe. Wines made with Rousanne are floral and herbaceous, with warmer climate examples exhibiting rich flavours of honey and pear. In cooler climates the delicate floral notes are accentuated, and the wine has higher acidity.
A plump palate of stone fruit (think peach and nectarine) has notes of ripe red apples and and a suggestion of sweet pineapple. Floral fragrance and a dusting of white pepper adds interest.
