- Rathfinny Estate in East Sussex was founded in 2010 by husband and wife, Mark and Sarah Driver. Once a working arable farm, the first vines were planted in 2012 and today Rathfinny comprises over 200 acres of predominantly Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. The Blanc de Noirs is a blend of 65% Pinot Noir & 35% Pinot Meunier which was fermented in stainless steel at 16 C degrees fully undergoing malolactic fermentation. The wine has rested on its lees
for 36 months before disgorgement. Only 4g/l dosage yet the wine is beautifully balanced.
Displays a delicate nose of peonies and wild strawberries. The nose continues to the palate with more red fruit flavours such as raspberry, with further notes of toasted almonds and crunchy caramelised red apple.
- 'My favourite of the four wines is this terrific Blanc de Noirs. I like this style of wine from several other English wineries, too, but no one else makes a bottle of wine like this! ...The colour is ridiculously 'pinkish' and the flavour is decadent and lusty and if you would like to know what this winery does in just one glass, this is the wine to glug. Forward, drinking perfectly already and not especially frothy, this is a mellow, soothing, luxurious fellow and I heartily recommend it.' - Matthew Jukes, matthewjukes.com
'The best Summer Wines to Buy Now ... The Estate's Blanc de Noirs is the richest expression of their labours. It has a beautiful golden hue and generous flavours of red apple, strawberry and raspberry on the palate. Decadent and world class.' - Will Lyons, The Sunday Times
'Creamy but brisk richness is immediately suggested on the nose with a hint of nougat and freshly cut Red Delicious apple. There is something honeyed just after a touch of florality. The palate strikes a lovely balance and red apple juiciness appears. The ripeness of the fruit is apparent in the inherent balance, brimming with freshness bedded on sonorous roundness.' - Anne Krebiehl MW, The Buyer
