- Established in 2005 in Solicchiata, an area within the district within the Sicilian hill town of Castiglione di Sicilia on the northern slopes of Etna. The vineyards extend over an area of 11 hectares at a height of between 600 and 900 feet above sea level. The soils in the vineyards are rather stony, light, sandy loam with plenty of mineral elements from the volcano, giving the wines a very unique character.
Despite being light bodied this wine has an explosion of strawberries and red cherries, this leads into cooking spice like cinnamon and a touch of cloves. Due to the unique terroir of the volcanic soil a taste of darker, earthier minerality can also be detected. The high altitude at which the grapes are grown adds to the tannic structure allowing them to age slightly longer than some light bodied reds.
