- The Boschkloof Estate, is situated around five miles from the wine hub of Stellenbosch town. This is very much a hands-on winery with great care taken to ensure plantings of vines are between 3,800 to 4,800 vines per hectare which ensures lower yields of around five to eight tonnes per hectare of optimal quality grapes.
Patatsblanc arose when Reenen Borman, the winemaker at Boschkloof behind the celebrated Chenin Blanc from Patatsfontein in Montagu, decided that some of the Colombard on the property was too good to pass up and so devised a Colombard-Chenin Blanc blend intended to be accessible but not superficial. In this he has certainly succeeded as the wine has been highly scored by many top wine journalists.
Patatsblanc is a blend of old vine Colombard and Chenin Blanc from Montagu made by Reenen Borman of Boschkloof fame. This is a mineral wine with concentrated citrus notes, crushed stone, delicate herbal aromas and a touch of freshly cut grass. The wine displays fleshy stone fruit on the palate with a lean Chablis like character. Stunning.
