- Tequila Herradura, founded in 1870, is one of the oldest and most respected producers of tequila. Located and produced on the heart of Mexico's tequila region, in the tiny town of Amatitán, Jalisco, Tequila Herradura is all-natural and estate bottled 100% blue agave tequila. Tequila Herradura received its name when Aurelio López Rosales was out inspecting the agave fields and saw a glint of light on the dusty gound. When he picked up the gleaming object, it was a horseshoe that has caught the light. Since the horseshoe ('Herradura' in Spanish) means good luck all over the world, Aurelio was inspired to give this name to his excellent tequila. Carefully crafted using traditional methods, such as cooking the agave in clay ovens, fermenting naturally with wild yeast and aged in virgin American white oak barrels. Tequila Herradura delivers a unique sensorial experience in each of its various expressions. This is the primary reason Tequila Herradura is synonymous with success and quality since its beginning.
Herradura's own Gabriela Romo de la Peña introduced the world to reposado tequila in 1974. Herradura reposado is 'Rested' or aged for 11 months (9 more than category standards) which gives this tequila its deep copper colour and exceptionally smooth taste.
