- Glen Scotia is one of the last three working distilleries surviving in Campbeltown, which at one time rivalled Speyside for the number of distilleries and output of whisky. The distillery was founded in 1832 by Stewart Galbraith, whose family held it until the end of that century.
Glen Scotia Double Cask starts its life in first-fill bourbon barrels, before being finished in Pedro-Ximenez-sherry casks.
Classic sherry cask finish on the nose displaying luscious raisins, prunes and dates. Traditional malt character is paired with a slight familiarity of an appassimento wine or even a delicate fruity espresso, finishing with hints fudge and burnt orange peel.
A complex yet inviting palate boasts rich and oily flavours of creamy coffee, rum and raisin fudge and Christmas cake. Sweet vanilla oak lingers on the tongue with a tingle of cinnamon and clove spices.
A good length continues the flavours of deep dark sherry with hints of sea spray.
