Those of you who are regular visitors to the warehouse will know John Chapman our manager.
John is 26, married to Carole and lives in Ducklington. John did not undergo a conventional wedding but took his bride-to-be off to Alaska where they were married on top of a glacier. Typically, John managed to find time to taste a range of icewines, convincing himself that he would not have a chance of tasting them in situ again!
John was educated at Leeds University where he studied Computer Engineering. After a spell living and working in both the Haute Savoie and the Loire Valley, he returned to England and decided to concentrate on hotel management. Frustrated with the ineptitude of many of the people with whom he was working, he decided to broaden his horizons and learn about wine. He then joined Threshers in Moreton in Marsh, before moving to The Oxford Wine Company in January 2002.
From the very beginning, John showed strong leadership and organisational skills and he thrives on the busy atmosphere of the warehouse. He is extremely conscientious and very quickly passed his Intermediate Wine Exams and his Higher, where he gained a distinction. He is now studying for the Diploma which is the exam below the Master Of Wine. He has been on wine trips to France, Italy and Portugal and has an amazing ability to absorb information. Many of John's recommendations have directly resulted in improvements in our wine selection.
Outside wine, his interests include ski-ing, rugby and bridge. John has become a great asset to The Oxford Wine Company and together with Andy Norris, our latest recruit from Oddbins/Majestic, they make a formidable team with a fund of knowledge.
