From the sun-soaked slopes of the River Douro to a chilly winter’s evening, we bring you this combination of two seasonal favourites: Port and Cheese. We’ve all indulged in the odd glass or two alongside the stilton on a Christmas afternoon, but how many of us really know quite the amazing diversity available from Port? And do we understand the unique production process that brings this rich, sweet liquid from the vineyards of the Douro into our decanters? Come to this fascinating and seasonal tasting to find out!
Port Specialist João Belo will join us from Porto to lead us through six Ports, including the Kopke 10 Year Old White Port (£29.99) and Colheita White 2008; the Kopke 40 Year Old Tawny, and the Kopke Colheita 1978 (£110). Adam Verlander of The Jericho Cheese Company will be on hand with artisan cheeses which we will taste alongside the Ports.
Kopke was founded in 1638, making it the oldest Port House. They have built their enviable reputation on aged Tawny Ports and Colheitas (a Tawny Port made from a single vintage and vineyard).
This is a chance to taste some very special aged Tawny Ports, presented by – a wonderful treat for a November evening.
Please note that this tasting will take place at The Jericho Cheese Company – a working cheesemonger - so temperatures will be rather low. Please dress accordingly!
