Bordeaux - the most famous wine region in the world that produces, at the top end, the most long lived and famous of table wines: Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Mouton-Rothschild, Margaux and Haut-Brion - the five hallowed 1st growths that collectors drool over. Wines that last for 40 years and beyond in a good vintage. And wines that cost a fortune. After all, how many of us have drank mature wines of this stature and price? Answer – relatively few. So what else has Bordeaux got to offer for the more down to earth drinker? This is the question we have set out to answer in this tasting of good quality and delicious Bordeaux wines.
Thibaud Richard, the Bordeaux specialist at Les Grands Chais de France, has selected an excellent line up of Bordeaux wines that won’t break the bank but offer fantastic value for money in terms of quality, and also serve as a fantastic introduction to Bordeaux. Amongst the 6 wines that we’ll be showing will be the excellent Chateau Sergant, Lalande de Pomerol 2011 (£18.99), the highly complex Chateau des Combes, St Emilion Grand Cru 2013 (£19.99) and the luscious Chateau Pechon 2014, Sauternes (£19.49). There are rumours of an additional surprise wine at the end that might represent the upper end of Bordeaux – something rather special. You’ll have to come along and see!
