We’re getting together with Quod at The Old Bank Hotel to bring you an event that showcases some of the best wines that Bordeaux has to offer, served along expertly prepared food at one of Oxford’s top restaurants.
The wines will be presented by Bordeaux specialist Thibaut Richard, who will be coming over from Bordeaux itself to give us an insight into the world’s most famous wine region.
We will enjoy a flight of five wines over the course of the evening, beginning with bubbles - with the Château Dulong Cremant de Bordeaux. The starter will be accompanied by the gorgeously grassy Château Haut Mouleyre Sauvignon Gris – an excellent example of the new wave of white wines coming out of Bordeaux.
The main course will see us comparing two wines – one left and one right bank. From the right bank we will serve magnums of the Château La Patache Pomerol (£70) from the excellent 2015 vintage. This wine is rich, ripe and luscious – and a great favourite of our MD Ted Sandbach!
The star of the night, however, will surely be the Deuxieme Cru Classé Château Léoville-Poyferré St. Julien from another excellent vintage – this time 1995. This wine retails at £125, and has gained scores of 90 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, and of 93 from Wine Spectator. Its concentrated blackcurrant fruit and subtle notes of tobacco make this a stunning wine to savour.
We’ll finish with a dessert course paired with the world’s most famous dessert wine - a Sauternes. The Château Rieussec Sauternes 2009 (£49.99) is another top scorer, having gained 95-97 points from Robert Parker, and 92-95 from Wine Spectator.
We hope you’ll join us for what promises to be an excellent experience. Early booking is advised as places are strictly limited!
