Domaine Baron Rothschild Tasting Thursday 10/07/14
Hosted by Andrew Napier
The Oxford Wine Company, 165 Botley Road, Oxford, OX2 0PB.
The name Rothschild always conjures up grand images of beautiful chateau, expensive wines and luxury. We were very lucky to have Andrew Napier from DBR comes and show us a range of wines from the family outside of the very expensive Bordeaux. This included wines from Corbieres, Sauternes and South America. I was especially looking forward to this as I had spent some time at their cellars in Mendoza, Argentina and so was keen to know what my customers thought.
The Argentinian wines were very popular, especially the Aruma for its purity of fruit. The big winner on the night however was the Carmes de Rieussec sweet wine from Sauternes. Sweet but not cloying, rich but not over the top this was universally loved.
