Prolific grape in China, especially in the provinces of Shandong and Ningxia. Various theories exist about the origin of the grape but DNA deconstruction has shown that it is actually Carmenere. It produces aromatic wines with notes of green bell pepper and game. It performs better if yields are restricted. Gernischt can be a derivative of the German word Gemischt, meaning mixed.
