The Free Thursday Tasting: Burgundy vs. The Rhone Thursday 02/10/14

This was one of our best free tastings: lots of laughter, stories of imaginary French winemakers and, of course, some quality wine. It was always going to be difficult for me having to defend Burgundy against the often more accessible (and probably better value) wines of the Rhone. Aljoscha's white Fleur Solitaire easily won against my Saint Veran with people enjoying its peachy fruit and honeyed texture.
When it came to the reds my Macon Pierreclos was much more popular than the simple and uncomplicated Sarriette. It was only after the vote that we revealed the Macon was actually made from Gamay! The Rhone won out overall but there were definitely some surprises.
