Unit 1

The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottlingHow these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal- still wines of the world- sparkling wines of the world- fortified wines of the worldHow to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality

Unit 2

How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)Tutored tastings of 82 wines.

Course delivery

This qualification has a minimum requirement of 84 hours of study time, including 30 hours of classroom time. Students should note that this is a demanding course and are advised to allow adequate self-study and revision time. A minimum of 60 hours of study time is recommended, in addition to classroom attendance.It is essential that all 16 classes are attended.


Assessment

Unit 1 is assessed by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions and a short-written answer paper. 

Unit 2 is assessed by a blind tasting of two wines.

A mark of 55% is required in both parts to pass.

This qualification is regulated by Ofqual

Entry requirements

It is recommended that you hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge.

Cost - £820 - The cost includes all study materials, wine and samples, tuition, six ISO tasting glasses, examination, postage and VAT.
