How it all started
The original Oxford Wine Company was founded in 1840 and traded from 125, High Street, Oxford until 1914. The name was revived in the early 1990s by Ted Sandbach, metamorphosing from "The Oxford Hamper Company" through "The Oxford Wine And Hamper Company" and finally "The Oxford Wine Company" in the Spring of 1992. The company has a large warehouse which is open to the public for case or single bottle purchases and has recently expanded to open two satellite branches. In addition the company operates a thriving wholesale business in the Thames Valley Corridor, although wine can be delivered throughout the UK.

We have an outstanding range of wines, a highly responsive logistics capability and a passion for proper customer service. Local and independent
Our headquarters are based near Witney, and we have two recently-opened shops in central Oxford and Tetbury. We deliver throughout Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Herefordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Worcestershire and South Wales. We are an independent, family-owned wine specialist that has been established for almost 20 years. We were recently named Independent Regional Wine Merchant of the Year (IWC), Best Wholesaler - Harpers Top Merchant Award, Runner Up in the National Independent Merchant of The Year competition, and have gained a high profile in the wine press.
Great choice and quality
We have over 900 wines in our portfolio, all of which are carefully chosen for their quality and are priced competitively. These wines are exclusive to us in this region and won't be found in supermarkets or on the high street. We also have an impressive range of high-end spirits, fortified wines and liqueurs (for example, over 200 whiskeys/whiskys!).
Our small number of staff are well qualified (most have the Diploma in Wines & Spirits) and have long experience in the wine trade. As a valued customer we would look after you very well and you would be assigned a member of the sales team who would be your point of contact with the company. We are happy to offer staff training and undertake events and customer tastings on your behalf. We listen to what you say and take appropriate action to continually improve our service to you.
Our own vans will deliver once or twice weekly to suit your needs. Our stock is managed well and our communication with you is frequent and direct. We like to build strong partnerships with our customers.
No minimum order; cases may be split. Being local means we can be with you very quickly should you need an emergency delivery. Wine lists can be changed and revitalised as and when your establishment needs them to be, and special events can be accommodated at short notice.
We can design and print wine lists in-house, leaving you to concentrate on your core business.
