Theo’s Fine Wine 6 Bottle Mixed Case Offer For Winter

This special offer contains a number of wines that I’ve discovered and rediscovered recently on my travels and in three cases tasted in the vineyard where the grapes are grown. These are all delicious wines with real character that are all carefully made and drinking very well now. They’re sure to set your taste buds tingling with pleasure (they certainly do mine!)

Contains 1 bottle of each wine:

Dr. Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 2010, Mosel - £22.99

I tasted this again at the Ernie Loosen tasting that he presented in June 2012 and was knocked out by it (again!) Ernie Loosen produces only Riesling from traditional, slate-soil vineyards in the Mosel Valley and what wines they are. This is a superb mixture of honeycomb and pineapple with a wonderfully tense balance between sweetness and acidity and beautiful underlying minerality. It’s long and really vibrant – superb wine.

Breaux Vineyards Viognier 2009, Virginia - £18.50

Another great vintage of Viognier from Breaux who have over 100 acres planted to 18 different grape varieties. This has flavours of orange blossom, peach and honey  and is crisp, super clean with nervy acidity that makes this wine really refreshing. This is one of the two grape varieties that Virginia produces at world class quality levels – lovely wine!

Paul Cluver Chardonnay 2010, Elgin - £15.75

Can’t afford a serious Meursault from Burgundy? Try this instead – it tastes extremely similar, and though you won’t get the complexity of a £50 Burgundy you’ll get a bargain wine that delivers almost identical flavours. An all time favourite of mine and brilliant with Dim Sum! (How often do you hear that as a pairing?!).

Escarpment Pinot Noir 2009, Martinborough - £20.99

Larry McKenna continues to make great Pinot Noir from his specialist vineyards in Martinborough, which is still the best area in New Zealand for Pinot in my opinion. This is vibrant and silky smooth with gracefully typical Pinot flavours and a gentle burr of tannins on the end which gives a nice touch of structure. Absolutely superb with pork and pretty damn good with chicken for that matter (tastes nice on its own too!)

Viña Ardanza Rioja Reserva Especial 2001, La Rioja Alta - £21.99

My favourite all time Rioja since my days in the Spanish wine trade and indeed one of my all time favourite reds – full stop. La Rioja Alta continues to be one of the benchmarks for traditionally produced Rioja wine and one sip of this shows you why - intense and complex to the nose with wild berry aromas, blended with hints of coconut, cinnamon, tobacco and leather. It’s full bodied and well structured to the palate, with silky and enveloping tannins. This is only the third vintage of this Reserva Especial ever produced as it is only released in truly exceptional vintages. Superb wine at a bargain price.

Quinta de la Rosa Réserve 2008, Douro - £26.99

Starting in the 1990s, the Bergqvist family was one of the pioneers in taking red table wine production in the Douro region seriously. The arrival of winemaker Jorge Moreira in 2002 further improved the quality of the winemaking at La Rosa and their 55 hectares are now used to produce top notch port and table wine in a ratio of 2:1. This is deep, rich and powerful – the wine has immense complexity coupled with beautifully integrated classic Douro minerality and a long aromatic finish. Very well crafted wine.

Oz Clarke My Top Wines For 2013 - 12 Bottle Mixed Case Offer For Winter

Contains 3 bottles of each wine

Each year, Oz Clarke, Britain's favourite wine writer and personality chooses his Top Wines in his Wine Buying Guide. This year he has chosen five of our wines to include in his 2013 guide which was published in October 2012. We have included four of these in this great value specially discounted mixed case offer:

2010 Garnacha Blancha, La Miranda de Secastilla, Somontano, Spain - £11.55

“This comes from Somontano, a cool area up near the Pyrenees – and you don’t really expect to see the warm climate Garnacha Blanca grape growing there. But the restrained high altitude produces top flavours: rich but dry apple and peach, a texture of wax and syrup and a warmth of biscuit and sun-baked nuts.”

2010 Txomin Etxaniz Getaria (Txakoli), Getriako Txakolina, Spain - £19.99

“A very fresh, tingling style, surprisingly deep, dense even, somehow mixing baked apple flesh and dates with the chewiness of apple peel and the nostril-twitching aroma of lemon zest. Intense, acid, spritzy-fresh and fascinating.”

2010 Syrah Woodthorpe Vineyard, Te Mata Estate, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand - £16.99

(Listed as one of Oz Clarke’s top 5 Syrah/Shiraz wines)
“This has just a suggestion of lily-flower scent, but rather more of the sap of the lily stem, the crunchiness of black pepper and celery just dusted with glittery quartz, then soaked in ripe loganberry and raspberry fruit and the chocolate sweetness of carob.”

2008 Petit Verdot, Veritas Vineyard, Virginia, USA - £17.99

“This has all the deep, black Petit Verdot character, but the fruit is a sweet, rich mix of black plum and blueberry, fattened up with brioche pastry and chocolate and freshened by a nice nip of acidity, along with a dusting of old kitchen spice.”

It’s harvest time and the shops are full of pumpkin, squash, and mushroom recipes and spicy soups and casseroles.  I’ve put together a range of wines that will be ideal for the darker nights and richer foods.

Contains 2 bottles of each wine:

Vinas Riojanas Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Argententine red with a medium body, and bright blackcurrant fruit.  Try it with roast autumn vegetables with a cheese topping.

Volpetto Chianti 2009

Bright cherry flavours are hand in hand with a dry savoury style.  Wild mushroom risotto would suit.

Ch Eyssards, Bergerac 2010

Fragrant medium bodied red with lively bramble and bracken flavours and a dry finish.   Hot pots or roast pork will be lovely with this.

Felines Jourdan Roussanne Chardonnay 2011

A weighty white with aromas of nectarine, peach and lemon.   Try Chicken and pesto lasagne or smoked ham pasta bake.

La Linda Viognier 2011

This rich white has apricot and almond flavours with a clean zippy finish.  Luxury fish pie works really well with this.

Casa del Bosque Sauvignon Blanc 2011

As a contrast to the richer whites, this is lively, fresh, very dry and full of nettle and blackcurrant flavours.  It is a lovely aperitif and a standard with roast chicken.
