This is a selection of what is simply some of my favourite wines to drink right now. A mixture from the Old World and New World, all these wines offer fabulous mouth watering fruit backed up by good structure and are all classic examples of their kind.

Contains 1 bottle of each wine

Turk Gruner Veltliner 2009, Austria
The trend for Gruner Veltliner continues unabated with many minerally, super fresh examples popping up all over the place. This, however, is certainly not a run of the mill Gruner. Rich and complex, this cuvee of grapes grown on primary rock soils is a blend of two vineyards the Ried Wachtberg and Alte Haide with an average age of 50 years. This peppery Veltliner with its bright cheery character and stone fruit aromatics is unusually complex and delicious.

Lismore Sauvignon Blanc 2009, South Africa
Tucked into the foothills of a dramatic mountain range at the bottom of Africa is Lismore Estate Vineyards, an exciting new estate from the recently declared wine ward of Greyton, about 40 miles west of Stellenbosch.  Californian Samantha O'Keefe has found paradise and the perfect terroir here. Her passion combined with vines planted at 300 meters, chilled by the winter snow and nourished by the African summer sun, produce classic cool climate wines which are rich, complex and lovingly hand crafted. This is a shimmeringly brilliant barrel-fermented Sauvignon, with classic crackling notes of gooseberry, nettles, lime, blossom and hints of riper passion and guava fruit alongside wisps of chalk and cream.

St Aubin 1er Cru les Charmois 2008, Philippe Colin
Saint Aubin shares many of the features of Chassagne-Montrachet, but offers much better value. Saint Aubin's Premier Cru 'Les Charmois' vineyard lies alongside Chassgne-Montrachet's Premier Cru 'Les Chaumees' vineyard and produces a wine that is lemon gold in colour and full of sprightly lemon, orange and apricot flavours, whipped into shape by some lively acidity and a perfectly-judged seam of nutty oak weaving its way amidst the fruit. Brilliant with Dim Sum and egg fried rice – trust me!

Domaine Gayda Figure Libre 2008, France
Domaine Gayda is situated south East of Carcassonne in the heart of the Languedoc region of South West France. This is a hugely exciting area which has become a hotbed of experimentation and high quality, hand crafted wines made by small dedicated producers with real passion. Domaine Gayda is certainly one of these and is a top class award winning producer. The Figure Libre is a blend of 89% Cabernet Franc and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and is superbly perfumed with fragrant black cherry and cassis. It is full bodied and intense with blackcurrant, cedar and graphite notes, dense fruit on the palate, fine grained tannins and long aromatic finish.

Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2007
Stunning rich old vine Zinfandel. Ridge has a reputation second to none for making first class wines from the Monte Bello mountain region. A truly iconic wine, this has a ripe nose of raspberry, plum and pepper with blackberry, mineral and vanilla notes dominating the palate. Well integrated tannins and complexity typical of this classic vineyard add to the long classic finish. Top class wine.

The Purple Angel by Montes 2006
Made by Aurlio Montes Junior, son of the founding father of quality wine in Chile, this is superb wine. The Purple Angel has an intense purple colour with distinctive and delicate hints of chocolate and cigar box aromas.  This wine is incredibly complex and has deep layers of smokey chocolate, minerals and dark plum driven by superb aromatics and the perfect structure for drinking right now. My current fave rave – big time!

Oz Clarke 250 Best Wines 6 Bottle Mixed Case Offer for Winter

Contains 2 bottles of each wine.

Each year, Oz Clarke, Britain's favourite wine writer and personality chooses his Top 250 Best Wines in his Wine Buying Guide. This year he has again chosen a number of our wines to include in his 2012 guide which was published in October 2011. We have included three of these in this great value specially discounted mixed case offer – all quotes from the man himself.

Breaux Vineyards Viognier 2009, Virginia
“Recently when I’m asked if I’ve discovered any new world-class vineyard regions, I’m quite likely to say yes, one of the oldest in America – Virginia. Especially when they grow the notoriously difficult Viognier grape. This is a lighter, milder, softer style, but has a delightful honeysuckle scent, apricot fruit and an appetizing dry texture somewhere between peach skin and scented leather.”

Visan Cotes du Rhone Villages 2009, Nature, Domaine de la Fourmente, Rhone, France
“Visan isn’t a well-known Rhone Valley village, but that can play to your advantage because the quality here is tremendous while the price is very fair. This is powerful stuff, black and tannic, yet it still has a delightful fresh scent, a whiff of herbs and deep blackberry syrup fruit, all wrapped up in succulent oak softness.”

Cabernet Franc 2008, Raats, Stellenbosch, South Africa
“Powerful stuff, but not in the overbearing way that spoils quite a few Cape reds. Raats is famous for beautifully balanced white Chenin Blanc. Cabernet Franc is the only red he makes, and he’s majored on the variety’s mouth-watering fruit. Even so, there’s loads of flavour here – rich raspberry fruit, blackcurrant leaf freshness and a cool, sharp acidity standing up to the smoke and stones and earth of the mighty Cape.”
