Weingut Winter Riesling Trocken, Rheinhessen

Ref. 1250

Acids don’t have particularly attractive associations so they tend not to feature as the central theme in most tasting notes, but acids are as vital to a wine’s success as the fruit flavours that steal so much of the descriptive glory. So, let’s turn things around here and celebrate the great job that acid does. This immaculately balanced Riesling is a wonderful showcase for the shimmering, scintillating qualities of both tartaric and malic acid, which provide the incisive sour apple bite that complement the ripe, peachy fruit and send a bolt of lightning through the rich, lime cordial texture of the wine’s body. This is a great dry Riesling that works well as an aperitif or with fragrant Asian foods.

  • Press: 4th out of 60 in recent Decanter tasting. 'Winter’s basic 2009 Riesling trocken features fresh grapefruit, pineapple, and gooseberry mingled with nut oils and myriad herbs on a lusciously juicy, invigoratingly tart, buoyant palate. Offering sheer persistence that you would not expect from a 'lowly' cuvée and (at 12.5% alcohol) slimness, elegance, and refreshment, this should serve admirably for 3-4 years.'
