Clover Hill 2004, Tasmania
Tasmania has a moderate maritime climate, cooled by prevailing westerlies off the southern ocean. Mild spring and summer temperatures allow the grapes to ripen slowly on the vine, resulting in maximum varietal development. This is achieved without losing that essential natural acid that gives Tasmania’s wines exceptional freshness and balance. Sparkling wines are of great importance here and are produced using the classic method champenoise method of bottle fermentation.
Scotchman's Hill Chardonnay 2006, Geelong
The cool Geelong Wine Region is united by boutique family owned winegrowers who maximise their wine's potential by hand pruning, hand picking and hand crafting their wines thus allowing regional characters to develop. This is an ultra cool region which is ideal for the production of top quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir whose aromatic properties are amongst the best in Australia.
Cape Mentelle Sauvignon/Semillon 2008, Margaret River
The permutations of these two varieties in Margaret River seem endless whether they are used as single varietals or blends. The Semillon acquires a pleasantly herbal, grassy cut which imperceptibly shades into Sauvignon Blanc. Intensity and elegance are the characteristics of this classic blend made in this famous cool climate area.
TarraWarra Pinot Noir 2005, Yarra Valley
The Yarra Valley was Victoria’s first wine growing district with a history stretching back over 160 years. Pinot Noir takes pride of place because Yarra has achieved more with this difficult variety than any other wine region in Australia. Classic flavours found here include strawberry and plum which mingle in these classic cool climate wines.
Jim Barry ‘The Cover Drive’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Clare/Coonawarra
The Cover Drive is made from a mix of fruit from the Clare and Coonawarra areas. Clare’s Cabernet is relatively elegant with typical flavours of dark berries, chocolate and cigar box whilst Coonawarra produces wines that have superb concentration and flavours which range from blackcurrant to plum and red cherry.
Peter Lehmann Futures Shiraz 2006, Barossa Valley
The Barossa Valley is undoubtedly Australia's most famous wine region. The wines are dominated by reds made from either Shiraz or Cabernet, but if you are looking for a different experience then there is plenty of diversity to explore. The varietal profile of the Barossa is similar to that of the Rhone Valley, with the predominant Shiraz being supplemented by Grenache and Mourvedre
