37.5cl Elysium Black Muscat, Andrew Quady
Ref. 0760
Known in Europe as a table grape variety, Black Muscat (Muscat Hamburg) is one of the very few black skinned muscat grapes. The distinctive rose-like aroma of this grape led to the name ‘Elysium’, mythological Greek for ‘paradise’. Lightly fortified to about 15% alcohol and aged for 3 months in small French oak barrels, Elysium is a brilliant crimson purple with aromas of roses, hibiscus, and strawberries. Flavours of cherries and red berries encourage the use of Elysium as a dessert or as an accompaniment to desserts. Elysium is great with vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate, blue cheese and candlelight. Best served chilled.

- Other info: Andrew Quady is the pre-eminent dessert wine producer in California at present. He had worked for several of the large Central Valley wine companies, producing many Californian `Port` style wines as well as dessert wines, before launching his own winery at Madera in the Cental Valley region in 1981. His two best wines are Essencia, which is made from Orange Muscat (named because the grapes have an orange-like aroma), and Elysium, which is made from Black Muscat. Winemaker Michael Blaylock is producing better wines than ever before - Bill Clinton is a big fan and these wines were served regularly at White House functions and banquets.
