- This particular zone of Monteregio has a unique microclimate. The distinctive features of the mineral composition of the soils - Rocci di Montemassi are at the foot of the Metal-bearing Hills, the climate of the Tuscan coast, the variation between day- and night-time temperatures and the cool, temperate breezes that blow in from the sea and temper the heat of summer are the outstanding qualities of the Maremma. And no less important is the sunlight, which here has an extraordinarily beneficial influence on the perfect ripening of the grapes. The vines are Cordon Spur or Guyot trained, depending on the variety, with a plant density of 5,000 per hectare.
The grapes are machine harvested, gently crushed and de-stemmed. The must is vinified in vertical fermenters for about 20 days at a temperature of 82° F. The name Sassabruna means 'dark stone', chararacteristic of the terroir of that estate in Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC, in the heart of thr Maremma sub-region in coastal Tuscany. This blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, and 10% Syrah is aged in 350 litre French barrels for 12 months. Following barrel aging, the wine spends an additional period of three months aging in the bottle.
Highly intense ruby red colour. Complex with notes of ripe red fruit accompanied by scents of spices and licorice. Rich and medium bodied revealing fresh and vibrant mixed berries, savory notes and milk chocolate that lead to polished tannins and a persistent, delicate finish.
