- Asti Spumante is made from the Moscato grape whose origins can be clearly dated to at least the 13th century. The modern fizzy drink we know so well was perfected by Giovan Battista Croce of Milan who worked for the Duke of Savoy. The former owned a vineyard between Montevecchio and Candia where he devised the techniques for producing a wine which was sweet, had a beautiful aroma and contained a low amount of alcohol the classic attributes of Asti Spumante.
Citrus and peach flavours with orange blossom and honeysuckle. A fresh, light-bodied sparkling wine with lovely grape flavours and sweetness balanced by crisp citrus fruit. Low in alcohol.
A classic refreshing Summer drink.
- Consider coming home from work, knackered, and
being able to lay into something chilled, aromatic
and petillant, offering joyous melon fruit with a hint
of custard along with a crisp, fresh citrussy edge to
make you demand a second glass and then a third.
This is surely one of the great seasonal preprandial
whistle-whetters. Malcolm Gluck, The Guardian, 12
