Raising a Glass to Return of Wine Café
"The Oxford Wine Company has taken over the building formerly occupied by the Summertown Wine Café in South Parade and will relaunch in April. It will be the first time the Standlake-based wine dealer has opened a licensed premises which will be renamed The Oxford Wine Café. Managing Director Ted Sandbach said: "The Oxford Wine Cafe gives us the perfect opportunity to tap into the discerning North Oxford market and to give all our customers an opportunity to taste quality wines in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere."
Bosses at The Oxford Wine Company, which also has a shop on Oxford’s Botley Road, intend to keep many aspects of the old business but say prices will be cheaper with a choice of up to 100 different wines. A refurbishment of the business has now started and the business will be managed by Louise Ferreira, who has been working on the sales side of The Oxford Wine Company but spent eight years running the Blue Boar at Longworth. She said: “We are not going to change too much because the locals really liked it. For example we are using the same coffee supplier. The food is going to be simple and we are talking to local suppliers. We want to build a good atmosphere – the sound of people having a good time is music to my ears.”The aim is to attract a wide client base from business people to parents dropping in after the school run. Regular tastings will be held and wine will also be for take home sale. A sommelier, Callum Peaston, who previously worked at The Feathered Nest at Nether Westcote will also be employed, along with up to six other full and part time staff."

Wine Merchant Enjoys Sweet Taste of Success
“A wine merchant is popping open the Champagne after winning a forth award this year. The Oxford Wine Company brought home the Regional Wine Merchant of the Year award for the South of England on Tuesday. The prestigious title joins three others on the trophy shelf, Best Customer Service and Best Wholesaler of the Year from harpers Wine & Spirits, and Independent Wine Retailer of the Year from the Drink Retailing Awards. Theo Sloot said: “We are extremely pleased, it is always an honour to be recognized by your peers. There are a lot of good companies out there, and we won this with a team effort. We have won three awards this year already but this tops it off, this really is the one to get.” The company’s chief buyer, Marcia Waters, has the highly-sought-after MW (master of wine) qualification.”

Firm Toasts Awards Win
“The Oxford Wine Company, which opened a shop in West Way, Cirencester, this summer, has been named winner of the prestigious Regional Wine Merchant of the Year 2012 by the top wine trade body. Judges of The International Wine Challenge (IWC) include many Masters of Wine and well-known journalists such as Oz Clarke. Charles Metcalfe, Chairman of the IWC, said: ‘The fact that The Oxford Wine Company has a great range of wines was shown clearly in this year’s International Wine Challenge, where they won 19 Gold medals. That’s something very few other companies in the UK managed. They run a great programme of tastings and events, have just opened another shop (in Cirencester), and taken on Marcia Waters, a very respected mater of Wine, to help on the buying side. It’s so good to see a well-run company expanding, making decent profits and giving a cracking service to its customers.’”
