Despite making Champagne since 1838, Maison Deutz remains slightly under the radar in the UK. Perhaps it’s something to do with the fact that much of their production never leaves France. Or maybe it’s because they are selective about where their Champagnes appear, eschewing the supermarket shelves in favour of specialist wine merchants and quality restaurants.
One thing that it has absolutely nothing to do with, however, is quality. Champagne Deutz have to be one of the best producers around, with an unwavering commitment to excellence. Deutz owns a significant portion of its own vineyards, giving them greater control over every stage in the production process, from grapes on the vine right through to Champagne in the bottle. They select only the finest berries from the finest crus of Champagne. They are also one of minority of Champagne houses to only use the very first juice that comes of the grape press – being the most delicate and highest in quality. The house style is based on fine quality, freshness and delicacy. In a word, elegance.
We are lucky enough to have Etienne Defosse from Champagne Deutz coming to the Botley Road to take us through the long history of this fantastic producer, as well as, of course, a range of their fabulous Champagnes.
This is going to be a good one – we’ll see you there!
