The family has owned the estate since 1896 and are today recognised as pioneers for the region. The De Rust farm was originally purchased for the grazing of livestock but it was soon realised how good the potential was for producing high quality grapes. In 1986 the Cluver's built their winery, which was the first for the region. Today their 2000+ hectare estate is part of a UNESCO world heritage site and their wines keep getting better and better.
Based in Elgin, this is one of the finest cool climate regions in the new world and the Cluver's are at the forefront.
To still be in the hands of the same family after such a long history is quite a unique element, especially in South Africa. These are exceptional cool climate wines from a traditionally warmer climate country!
Paul Cluver's Gewurztraminer is excellent however the late harvest Riesling is truly exceptional.
